Petya Ransomware – What you need to know!

A new variant of the WannaCry ransomware is blazing through Europe today and even more devastating than its predecessor. I have not been able to do a tremendous amount of research as of yet, but I wanted to inform my Managed Service customers, specifically those running the WebRoot anti-virus application, that they are protected.

See https://www.webroot.com/blog/2017/06/27/petya-based-ransomware-assaults-global-networks/ for more information.

Lastly, for our email customers, while our spam/virus filter should detect and block malicious attachments, be extremely wary of any Microsoft Office email attachment that advises you to enable macros to view its content. Unless you are absolutely sure that this is a genuine email from a trusted source, do not enable macros and instead immediately delete the email.

If you are not currently a Managed Services customer and would like these protections going forward, we would be happy to discuss this with you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.
